The course will address obesity management and its strategies to deal with the question of why it’s hard to treat this disease. This will cover appropriate terminology, treatment goals, and obesity Algorithm through case studies. The course content will cover environmental factors, genetic and epigenetic factors, behavioral change strategies, food intake, microbiota, neurohormonal, and more. In addition, the course describes how to perform a nutrition assessment and identify causes of weight, apply motivational interview techniques to facilitate change, discuss the most appropriate “diet” to implement (evidenced-based diets for disease specific and weight loss), sample meal plans and sample cooking videos. Furthermore, the course will cover the appropriate anthropometrics (specific to identify this disease), biochemical data tools & techniques to minimize risks for Plateau, Medical Nutrition Therapy for Obesity Treatment, and briefly include discussion on weight loss meds, physical activity, and bariatric surgical options. Education components & Counseling (evidence-based strategies) is also included with strategies that work for adults (Weight Loss Plateau & Weight Regain Prevention) with emphasis on explaining a patient-centered approach to nutrition counseling.
